Nostalgia with a Side of Espresso Beans

A future mixed into the burnt sugar of your memory

A last midnight
espresso bean brews
on my tongue;
a smooth beat
warms my ears;
a cliff of flames
greets the chill
of cracked skin
smiling in relief,
as I thank
every past self
willing to bring
this caramel moment
to your lips relaxing
into the hope
of a future mixed
into the burnt sugar
of your lost memory.

Sometimes alone
but never lonely,
I wish you could taste
this moment by my side,
so you could know
how beautiful
my life is now,
in every fall
of your thoughts
across pages
we’ll never share.
