My heart goes out to so many people across the United States who are losing their jobs for political reasons in our federal government. This is impacting people across the political spectrum.

Maybe you’re reading this because you were recently fired. Maybe you’re anticipating being fired and are reading this while planning for what you believe may happen soon.

Some people have known these discriminatory mass firings were coming since November, when Trump was elected President. Other people have been shocked to discover that their lives were drastically altered by an administration they may have felt indifferent towards or even supported. Many people had no idea they were benefitting from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives that are currently under attack.

For many people living in the United States, our identities are tied up in our work. The first question most people here ask us after learning our names is about what we do for employment. We’re programmed to measure our worth based on what we can accomplish professionally. Our value is too often measured in what others will pay for our time, labor, and knowledge.
