For Your Thoughts Only
Memories blink like firefly lights
Dressed in smoke,
in glass flashing
for your thoughts only,
they lined the stage
of another empty
hotel showroom,
each a story fading
into streetlamps
passing us by,
a flash at a time;
memories blink
like firefly lights.
Avert those eyes,
ignore the pendulum
breaking windows
with each dance
around the questions
they don’t want to ask,
from opposite sides
of the paper bridge,
ripping as we move
a little closer to hope
of a forever home.
Dreams burn under
the linens wrinkled
by each new year,
but I’ll hold you through
every lightning strike
knowing this fear
will be lost to the pink
of another sunset resting
on the rims of glasses
clinking with peace.
